Third annual Freedom Coast Ride honors first responders & wounded veterans

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Jacqui Kapinowski was giving high fives all around at the finish line this past weekend. The founder and organizer of the 3rd annual Freedom Coast Ride was so proud to see the race bigger than ever, from Juno Beach all the way down to Steam Horse Brewery in West Pam Beach.
Over 270 cyclists took part, honoring our wounded veterans, first responders and firefighters. Many of the athletes have overcome disabilities that they originally thought were going to hold them down in life. One of those cyclists is Jimmy Crews, who suffered a brain injury from a car accident almost 13 years ago. He was inspired by Jackie to start cycling, and was one of the first across the finish line.
“I continued, and I never gave up,” says a proud Crews. “Even though you think you can’t, you can.”
“The growth is just unbelievable,” says Kapinowski. “To be here and to represent this cause. (All of the riders) are here to support our mission and our non-profit.”
The Freedom Coast Ride is only going to get bigger and bigger as the years go on. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Shifting Gears United, Freedom Team Wounded Veterans & First Responders.
