THE BUSINESS JOURNALS

One of South Florida’s largest credit unions donated nearly $50,000 toward charities that serve minority and diverse communities in South Florida.
Celebrating its 70th year in business, Pembroke Pines-based Power Financial Credit Union awarded on July 2 over $7,000 to each of the organizations.
Recipients:
The Advocacy Network on Disabilities based in Kendall, which advocates for the rights of disabled people
Weston-based Jason Taylor Foundation, which creates programs for South Florida’s children
Fort Lauderdale-based Take Stock in Children, a nonprofit that mentors low-income students
Save Foundation based in Miami, which advocates against LGBTQ discrimination
Tequesta-based Shifting Gears United, which offers programs for disabled people in multi-adapted sports
Delray Beach-based Achievement Centers for Children and Families, a nonprofit serving low-income families
Fort Lauderdale-based LifeNet4Families, which helps those experiencing hunger, homelessness and poverty in Broward County
The selected organizations are set to receive funding during a June 22 ceremony.
Among the award recipients is the Miami-based Save Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of LGBTQ community members in South Florida since 1993 through educational programming and outreach efforts.
“What they’re saying to their employees, their members and the public is that they are supportive of LGBTQ people,” said Orlando Gonzales, executive director of Save Foundation. “They are making a statement to the public about where their values lie in terms of respect for the human dignity of LGBTQ people.”
The funding will allow the Save Foundation to improve its educational initiatives and programming, including prejudice and bias reduction programs with community members.
Power Financial Credit Union serves nearly 35,000 members. Last year, the credit union completed system integration following its acquisition of Sunrise-based TransCapital Bank.
“We wanted to show our appreciation as we celebrate this significant milestone by donating to some very worthy charitable causes,” said President and CEO of Power Financial Credit Allan Prindle, who has led the organization for over 20 years.
